Madison County CASA Newsletter Another CASA service you may not know about...
Very often CASA children may only have contact with their parents under supervised circumstances. When in foster care, the state makes arrangements for these visits. But what happens when kids go into the care of relatives who don't get along with the parents? The relatives are in charge of the visits, and if the relationship between the relatives and one or both parents is not good, then the child may be caught in the midde of an ugly scene at every visit. Through a grant from the State of Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts, CASA offers a Supervised Visitation program for children who are not in state custody. The visitation room, decorated and equipped by the Jackson State Community College Art Club, Leadership Jackson Class of 2005, Eagle Scouts, and many corporate and private donors, is as kid friendly as you can get with games, toys, and activities for all ages. A visit supervisor remains in the room during the visit as a neutral observer, but most importantly to ensure the child's comfort and safety. This service is available not only in abuse and neglect cases but also for divorces or custody battles or any situation where a Judge has ordered supervised contact. For more information on this program, please visit our website or contact Cheri Williams, Program Coordinator, at 731-427-5554.
